In our unit, How the Earth Was Made, we have completed our microscopic organism section with an assessment on the parts and use of a microscope. Students also did an assessment on a keynote identifying various protista and their characteristics.
We are back to viewing the dvd in chapters and are currently investigating the Cambrian Explosion. The students are working in small groups doing a short research and presentation on various aspects of this part of the film including Burgess Shale, Smithsonian Insitute, Cambrian Explosion, Carboniferous Period, Ozone Layer, and the Okefenokee Swamp. The students seem to be enjoying the dvd and have many questions about the science behind the information.
We will complete our year with this unit looking at fossils as evidence of the theories behind geologic time.
